The High-Summer Shred – Cut Outs Make A Comebak

High-summer marks the time of year where the weather turns from scorching hot to the ninth circle of Dante’s inferno. August- September is the most treacherous time of year for dressing if you live in the southern United States. With typical average temperatures in the upper 90s or higher and humidity at its peak, looking put together is extremely difficult. That’s why I am so excited that the cut out trend is making its way back down the runways, but in a much more polished fashion than in decades past.

When I was a kid in the 80s and 90s I remember spending the hot summer days outside on my bike or skating around the neighborhood on my rollerblades. The uniform was always cut off jeans, a worn out pair of LA Gear sneakers, and a t-shirt that was probably acquired for free from a school field day or class trip. Back in those days it was standard practice take a pair of scissors to your most worn out jeans and make a nice breezy pair of summertime shorts that you would never make it through the season without. If you were daring enough you might also shred up an old t shirt by cutting off the sleeves or cutting up the sides, fish gill style. This was cutting edge homemade fashion.

Cut out clothing wasn’t a new trend then but it has since been reinvented and refined. The shredded t-shirts of the 80s have inspired a new era of pieces with strategically placed cut outs, perfect for summer. The new iteration of this breezy trend is all about placing the cut out in surprising new areas. Many designers are keeping these areas just large enough to make a statement while keeping you cool and classy.

You can find chic cut out clothing just about everywhere these days . Choosing the best ones in a sea of choices may seem daunting but I am here to make it easy for you. Here are my picks for best cut out fashion available now.

  1. Wow those cut out’s are super cute on you! I don’t get dressed up much these days because my donkey and my horse will probably just mess it up (since I look like a bag of feed to them LOL) but you make me want to give it a go! Adorable.
